Programme Overview & Rationale

The Diplomatic Writing and Professional Communication Programme strengthens the written and verbal communication competencies required within government institutions, diplomatic missions, international organisations, regional bodies and executive offices. Diplomatic and institutional communication demands accuracy, discretion, clarity, protocol awareness and an ability to communicate complex positions in concise and professionally appropriate language. The programme develops practical competencies in diplomatic correspondence, policy writing, speech drafting, briefing notes, aide-mémoires, concept notes, negotiation briefs and professional verbal communication. Participants learn to prepare communication products that support official engagements, policy processes, executive decision-making, diplomatic negotiations and international cooperation. Emphasis is placed on professional writing standards, institutional tone, diplomatic courtesy, document structure, audience awareness, confidentiality and quality assurance. Through drafting laboratories, editing exercises, scenario-based assignments and communication simulations, participants strengthen their ability to transform technical and policy information into accurate, persuasive and action-oriented communication products. Within the Strategic Communication and Public Diplomacy (SCPD) Framework, the programme prepares participants to support executive leadership and diplomatic practice through high-quality written and verbal communication that reinforces institutional credibility, professional representation and effective international engagement.
