Every nation possesses assets that define its future. Some are blessed with vast mineral wealth, others with advanced industries or strategic geography. Zambia possesses something less visible but equally valuable—an enduring legacy of peace.
For more than six decades, Zambia has remained a respected symbol of political stability, peaceful democratic transitions and principled diplomacy. This reputation has attracted goodwill, strengthened investor confidence and positioned the country as a trusted partner within Africa and beyond.
Yet one question remained largely unexplored:
Can peace itself become an engine of economic transformation?
That question became the genesis of the Institute of Peace Economy Studies Zambia (IPES Zambia).
Rather than viewing peace solely as the absence of conflict, the Institute advances a different proposition: peace is productive. It creates conditions for investment, tourism, entrepreneurship, innovation, diplomacy and sustainable development.
This simple but transformative idea now underpins every programme undertaken by the Institute—from research and policy dialogue to professional training, public diplomacy and the International Peace Marathon Zambia.
